Marcel van Kasteel

Vice President & General Manager Handheld Diagnostics
Marcel joined Philips in September 2007, having worked for eight years with Beckman Coulter, where he was Vice President Diagnostics (EMEA and India). Former roles within Beckman Coulter included extensive periods as the company's Sales & Marketing Manager and Marketing Director. His previous career included commercial positions in Pharmacia & Upjohn, Eurogenetics and Amersham. He has also chaired several committees in the European Diagnostics Manufacturing Association (EDMA). Marcel holds a bachelor degree in Biochemistry, an MBA and several management and marketing qualifications.

Erik Roelfsema

Erik Roelfsema 

Sr. Director Operations
Erik was one of the first staff members in the Handheld Diagnostics Venture, joining it in December 2006. Prior to that, he was responsible for purchasing operations in the Shavers Business Unit at Philips Domestic Appliances, where he pioneered the outsourcing of many activities to the Far East. Before joining Philips in 2002, Erik worked for AVEBE and Rabobank where he held management positions in Operations, IT, Logistics, Purchasing and Strategy, particularly in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Erik has a degree in Business Economics and Marketing from the University of Wageningen.

Hans Freriks

Quality & Regulatory Manager
Hans joined the Handheld Diagnostics Venture in June 2011 from Philips Healthcare, taking responsibility for continued maintenance and certification of the organization's quality management system, regulatory product compliance, regulatory market access submissions and post market surveillance. He has over 30 years’ experience in different roles in the medical device industry; Quality Assurance in R&D, Business Excellence, Manufacturing Engineering, and over 15 years in Quality & Regulatory Affairs in Philips Healthcare. In 2008, Hans supported the Handheld Diagnostics venture in the initial implementation and certification of its quality management system. Hans has a Bachelors degree in Electronics.

Jeroen Nieuwenhuis

Jeroen Nieuwenhuis

Sr. Director Research & Development
Jeroen joined the Handheld Diagnostics venture in 2009 as Technology Director where he is responsible for development of the Minicare product platform, research activities, technology roadmap and intellectual property. Prior to joining the Handheld Diagnostics venture he worked as project leader on the early stages of the Magnotech technology at Philips Research from 2005 – 2008. Jeroen gained broad R&D experience working at Bosch Research and Technology Center North America (Pittsburgh, PA), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), and EG&G IC Sensors (Milpitas, CA). He has an MSc in electrical engineering from the Delft University of Technology, a PhD on lab-on-a-chip devices from the Vienna University of Technology and an MBA from the RSM Erasmus University.

Mark joined the Handheld Diagnostics venture in March 2015 as Sales Director where he is responsible for the Global Sales of the Minicare I-20. Prior to joining the Handheld Diagnostics Venture Mark has spent the past 16 years of his career in various Sales and Management Roles within Philips starting as the Labosys (LIMS) Groupmanager in the Benelux Sales organization and including roles as Sales Director for Philips Healthcare Benelux, Leader Large Scale Projects and Commercial Excellence Leader Europe and EMEA Leader for Customer Service Sales. Mark holds a MSc. in Business Sciences from Twente Technical University, specialization in Strategic Management and Industrial Marketing.

Michel joined Philips in May 2014 as Marketing Director where he is responsible for the Global Marketing of the Minicare near-patient IVD solutions. Michel has a long track record in marketing and sales in IVD, Medical Devices and Pharmaceutical Industry in global, regional and local roles.

Prior to joining Philips Handheld Diagnostics he worked as Marketing Manager Renal at Baxter Healthcare, Vice President Marketing & Sales at Pamgene Int., ass. Director Global Marketing Contraception at Organon (Roseland NJ, US) and Int Product manager and Account Manager at Organon Teknika.  In these roles he introduced several innovations into the markets

Michel holds degrees in Biochemistry, Marketing and Business Administration.

Veronique Semjonow

Veronique Semjonow

Sr. Director Medical Affairs
Veronique is a fully qualified Medical Doctor with broad experience in endocrinology, cardiovascular disease, oncology, prenatal care and anemia diagnosis, both in scientific and clinical settings. She has a strong background in immunoassay technology, laboratory testing, market development and international marketing. Prior to joining the Philips Healthcare Incubator in March 2008 as Medical Director, Handheld Diagnostics, she already had twenty years of experience with Beckman Coulter in a number of key positions, including International Sales and Marketing Manager and Scientific Group Manager for Immunoassays. She has also worked for Immunotech in a sales and marketing role and for various university hospitals and private institutes in medical practice. During her career, she has also held positions in scientific organizations such as the American College of Cardiology, European Thyroid Association, European Group on Tumor Markers (Secretary), European Randomized Study on Screening for Prostate Cancer, IFCC Scientific Division Working Groups, and the International Collaborative for Standardization of hGH Assays.
